Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Pier 7 Restaurant + Bar ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, discloses and protects your personal information. We handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

"Personal information" means information about an identifiable individual. By using our websites, booking a table, buying a gift card, or contacting us, you consent to the practices described here.

Accountability

We are responsible for personal information under our control and have designated a Privacy Officer accountable for compliance with this policy. Contact details are at the end.

What We Collect

Information you give us

Information collected automatically

Recorded Calls

Calls to the restaurant may be answered by an automated voice assistant, and calls may be recorded. Recordings and transcripts are used to take and confirm bookings, to answer questions accurately, to resolve disputes, and to improve how we handle calls.

Recordings are transcribed and summarised using automated services operated by OpenAI and Anthropic. Those providers process the audio or text outside Canada. If you would prefer not to be recorded, please tell us at the start of the call or contact us by email instead.

Why We Collect It

We will not use or disclose your personal information for a new purpose without your consent, unless the law requires or permits it.

Consent

You give express consent when you make a reservation, buy a gift card, sign up for emails or send us a message. You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal and contractual limits and reasonable notice, by contacting our Privacy Officer. Withdrawing consent may mean we cannot hold your booking or support a gift card you have bought. To stop marketing emails, use the unsubscribe link in any message.

Who We Share It With

We do not sell your personal information. We share it with service providers only as far as they need it to do a job for us:

We may also disclose personal information where the law requires it, or where we reasonably believe it is necessary to respond to legal process or to protect the rights, property or safety of our guests, our staff or the public.

Storage Outside of Canada

Our own websites and databases are hosted in Canada. However several of the providers listed above, including Stripe, Mailchimp, Google, Meta, OpenAI and Anthropic, store or process personal information outside Canada, including in the United States. While in another country your information may be accessible to the courts, law enforcement and government authorities of that country under its laws. By using these services you acknowledge this cross-border processing.

Cookies and Tracking

A cookie is a small piece of information a website stores in your browser. We use cookies and similar technologies to keep our sites working, to understand how they are used, and to measure advertising.

We set a visitor identifier scoped to .pierseven.ca. Because our gift card site is on the same domain, this lets us recognise the same browser across both and connect, for example, an advertisement you clicked with a gift card you later bought. It identifies a browser, not a person by name, and it is not shared with or sold to anyone else.

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies, and you can do so without losing the ability to browse, book or buy. You can also opt out of personalised advertising through Google's Ads Settings and the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada.

Retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above, for our business records, and to meet legal requirements. Reservation and transaction records are kept for as long as accounting and tax rules require. Call recordings and transcripts are kept only as long as they are useful for the purposes described, and are then deleted. When information is no longer required we take reasonable steps to destroy, erase or anonymise it.

Accuracy

We make reasonable efforts to keep personal information accurate and up to date. You may ask us to correct anything you believe is wrong or incomplete.

Safeguards

We protect personal information with safeguards appropriate to its sensitivity, including restricted access, encryption in transit, and payment handling by PCI-compliant providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information against loss, theft and unauthorised access.

Your Right to Access and Correction

Subject to the exceptions in PIPEDA and PIPA, you may ask what personal information we hold about you, how it has been used, and to whom it has been disclosed, and you may ask us to correct it. Contact our Privacy Officer below. We will respond within the time the law requires and may first ask you to verify your identity.

Children

Our websites are not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian to book or purchase for you.

Links to Other Websites

Our sites link to others, including OpenTable and our payment providers, which have their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for their practices and encourage you to read them.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices, technology or the law. The current version is always posted here and dated above. Material changes take effect when posted.
